Guest Speaker was Mr Jai Martinkovits from Sydney. In the south, the traditional Annual Luncheon took place at the Derwent Sailing Squadron, Sandy Bay. Prior to the luncheon members attended a flag raising ceremony before filing into the venue. Guest Speaker was Mr Jai Martinkovits from Sydney, External Relations Director for Australians for Constitutional Monarchy. Mr Martinkovits was introduced by Tasmanian President, Reg Watson. Before doing so, however, Secretary, John Salmon read out the many greetings received to commemorate the Day, from the Governor-General, the Tasmanian Governor, the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, the Leader of the State Opposition, but regretfully no message of greeting was received by the Tasmanian Premier, Lara Giddings, despite being requested to do so. This was disappointing. During the course of the event, sixteen year old Ethan Cort led the singing of the Royal Anthem on his violin, which was greatly appreciated. The vote of thanks was extended to Mr Martinkovits by John Salmon, expressing everyone’s appreciation his thoughts and knowledge on the Constitution and the inspiring comments re the National Flag.
